The Arkabutla Dam on the Coldwater River is under a potential failure which has led to the Flash Flood Watch issued across several Northwest Mississippi counties, announced by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District.
The counties in effect for the watch are DeSoto, Quitman, Coahoma, Panola, Tallahatchie, Tunica and Tate. The dam is located in Desoto County and Tate County.
Flash flooding in the areas below the dam could experience flash flooding if the Arkabutla Dam does fail structurally.
