Data released by the Memphis Police Department showed that homicides just a few weeks into the new year has already driven past the pace of 2023’s, which was record year.
So far in Memphis, there have been over 25 homicides, almost one per day.
Jake Cook, host of the Nation of Jake afternoon show, doesn’t believe this is an anomaly of a month. Rather, he feels this is the beginning of a new pattern.
“Why would it not increase? Has anybody, the police or the D.A’s office, done anything to lead us to believe that they will reduce crime or the number of homicides?” he said on Monday’s show. “No, they haven’t so you should expect more of the same.”
He also slammed Memphis law enforcement officials who decided to close their offices during the week of snowfall in the city instead of showing up for what Cook considers an “essential job”.
“I know D.A. Mulroy told us that they were going to implement a plan to prioritize violent crime, he said. “But then they shut down for a week, so maybe they are just behind.”
