Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, who just turned 82, has announced he will be stepping down from his position as GOP Senate Leader in November.
McConnell, the longest serving Senate party leader in American history, made this announcement Wednesday in the well of the Senate.
He has lately been in the headlines for some of his freeze-ups while conducting press conferences, which started to prompt questions of him remaining in the position.
The Kentucky Senator did confirm he plans to finish out his term as Senator ending in January 2027, but wants to make sure “the next generation of leadership” will take control.
