Twenty two year old, Geronimo Kee was taken into custody in the North Memphis, Austin Peay area. Kee was stopped for speeding 81 mph in a 55 mph on I240 / South Parkway around 4:19am on March 8th. 2nd Lt. Bobby Johnson wrote the speeding ticket and told Kee to sign the ticket but he refused. After being told 14 times (according to police affidavit), Kee told police “you’re going to have to kill me”. 2nd Lt. Bobby Johnson informed Kee that if he didn’t open the window and take the ticket that he would have to break the window and arrest Kee. Geronimo Kee refused. Johnson then broke the window as warned and Kee began to fire shots. Another officer on the scene returned fire as Kee sped off in a black Nissan that was later found about a mile away. Kee then made several phone calls to Tezaree Pennington, Zaire Kee, Malik Oliver and informed them that he was “in a shoot out with police”. When MPD reached out to Pennington to tell her that they were looking for him, she denied that she knew of his whereabouts. She then went to Walgreens to get gauze and other supplies to clean Kee’s hand that had apparently been hit when MPD returned fire. Multiple arrests have been made related to this case.
