The University of Memphis announced Jim Strickland, the former mayor of Memphis, as the new dean of the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law.
Strickland graduated from Memphis in 1989, and became an attorney until 2015.
Strickland will assume his new role as dean on June 1, after finishing his second term as mayor last December. He was mayor from 2016 until 2023.
David J. Russomanno, Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, stated in the official press announcement that Strickland’s experience will enhance what they are doing.
“He will build on a strong foundation as the school evolves to meet the changing demands of legal education,” he said. “His established relationships with the local and state legal communities, as well as other stakeholders, will facilitate the creation of new opportunities for the next generation of attorneys.”
