The funeral of the Memphis Police officer, Joseph McKinney, who was shot during the early morning hours of April 12 has been set for April 22.
Hope Church will hold the visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the funeral service set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
McKinney, who was 26, was killed during a shootout after approaching a suspicious vehicle. One of the suspects killed was 18 years old.
He leaves behind a wife and daughter.
Mayor Paul Young weighed in on the tragic shooting while also advocating for the justice system to enact harsher and swifter sentencing for violent crimes.
“Officer Joseph McKinney chose to wear the Memphis Police Department uniform,” he said in his official statement. “He chose to serve his city. Let’s make certain that Officer Joseph McKinney’s brave choices stand for something greater.”
