LOCAL | Owners of East Memphis Italian Restaurant To Pay $60k In EEOC Lawsuit

A discrimination and retaliation lawsuit involving Amerigo’s in East Memphis has resulted in a $60,000 settlement.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is in charge of laws making discrimination of any kind illegal in the workplace and in this case, the lawsuit was filed after a gay employee at the restaurant was reportedly discriminated against for his sexual orientation.

4Top Hospitality Group, Inc. and J.H.S. Holdings, LLC were pointed out in the lawsuit as the owners of the restaurant back in September 2023.

The EEOC claimed the business was in clear violation by establishing a hostile work environment for the employee and then firing him when he decided to speak up about it.

They also said the employees at the restaurant who were not gay did not face harassment and that the abuse was let on for months until the firing.
