The University of Mississippi was the site of the latest pro-Palestine protests on Thursday, as hundreds of students supporting and opposing Palestine made their voices heard.
This one, unlike many others, did not result in violence or destruction of property. Oxford Police were swift to take precautionary action and separate both groups using barricades.
There was plenty of chants shouted at each other as well as signs calling for Palestine to be set free, and related topics.
Tate Reeves, the Governor of Mississippi, made a statement on his X account acknowledging the protests and assured Mississippians that peaceful protesting will be upheld, not riots.
“Peaceful protests are allowed and protected – no matter how outrageous those protesters views may seem to some of us,” he wrote on his post. “But unlawful behavior will not be tolerated. It will be dealt with accordingly.”
The protests are still ongoing as of Friday morning.
