LOCAL | Ole Miss Fraternity Announces Removal Of Student Caught Making Racial Gestures At Protests

In the midst of the protests that sparked in Ole Miss last week, a student who was seen on video making racial gestures at a black pro-Palestine student has been removed from his fraternity.

Both sides of the protests were blocked off by campus police using barriers, but that didn’t stop each side from yelling and gesturing at each other. Chants broke out, and in some cases like this one, students would try to approach the other side.

That’s when a member of Phi Delta Theta was seen making monkey gestures and noises at one black protester who was approaching that side of the barricade.

As a result, the fraternity swiftly took action and removed him as a member.

“Phi Delta Theta General Headquarters is aware of the video regarding the student protest at the University of Mississippi,” they said in a released statement regarding the incident. “The racist actions in the video were those of an individual and are antithetical to the values of Phi Delta Theta and the Mississippi Alpha chapter. The responsible individual was removed from membership on Friday, May 3.”
