A petition to remove Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert has been filed by the State of Tennessee following criticism of her job performance by county residents.
It was filed Monday by Hamilton County District Attorney Coty Wamp who was given the responsibility to assess Halbert’s position as clerk.
The document highlights that Halbert’s “willful neglect to perform a duty” has been a detriment to the county and swiftly requires a removal.
It’s been an ongoing problem for several years now, where residents have claimed to experience long lines, delays, issues with car tags, and several office closures.
The State of Tennessee is seeking a hearing for suspension within the coming 20 days.
