The Memphis Grizzlies announced Tuesday that Tony Allen will be the next player in franchise history to have his jersey retired.
After a few years spent in Boston his rookie year, he joined Memphis and played for seven seasons while helping anchor one of the top defenses in the NBA.
A member of the famous ‘Grit & Grind’ squad wearing No. 9, he averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals from 2010-2017.
Not only did he put up solid numbers, it also came in big franchise wins. The Grizzlies in that time made seven consecutive playoff appearances, including eliminating the #1 seed in 2011 as a #8 seed and making a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2013.
He will be joining Zach Randolph (No. 50) and Marc Gasol (No. 33) as the third player with a retired jersey in the rafters. It is widely expected that Timberwolves’ guard Mike Conley (No.11) will be the last jersey to be retired in the coming years.
