LOCAL | Backpack Filled With Weapons And Ammo Found At Memphis High School, Teen Arrested

Memphis police were alerted Monday morning after a backpack was found with weapons in it at Raleigh Egypt High School.

Reports indicated that a cleaning lady at the school found the bag right before 10 a.m. by a dumpster in the bushes. Police searched the bag and found three loaded handguns and over 100 rounds of ammunition.

Campus cameras recorded a student hiding the bag in the bushes a few minutes after 9 a.m. There is belief that the weapons were intended to be used as part of drug deal robberies later in the day.

Memphis police arrested a 17-year-old student after he stashed a backpack containing three loaded handguns and more than 100 rounds of ammo in the bushes outside Raleigh Egypt High.

One gun was stolen in Ripley, TN, a small town an hour north of Memphis.

The teen caught on camera was arrested and taken to juvenile detention. He was consequently charged with carrying a weapon on school grounds and unlawful possession of a weapon.

One of the weapons was reported stolen as well.
