Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence startup, xAI, plans to construct the largest supercomputer in the world in Memphis, Tennessee, according to a statement made public on Wednesday.
According to Greater Memphis Chamber CEO Ted Townsend, the multibillion dollar “Gigafactory of Compute” will be the largest capital investment made by a new company in Memphis history.
If all goes according to plan and municipal and state agencies give their clearance, it should open before the year ends.
In Memphis, xAI will take over an old manufacturing building. At the company’s request, Townsend refused to reveal the precise location.
The business was revealed on July 13, 2023. It describes the project on their website as such: “xAI is a company working on building artificial intelligence to accelerate human scientific discovery. We are guided by our mission to advance our collective understanding of the universe.”
