LOCAL | Wanda Halbert Ouster Case Dismissed By Judge

On Tuesday, a court judge rejected an attempt to remove Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert from her position.

Judge Felicia Corbin-Johnson, determined that Coty Wamp, the district attorney from East Tennessee who initially filed the lawsuit, lacked jurisdiction.

After people and elected officials voiced concerns about Halbert’s performance as clerk, a petition to remove her from office was submitted on May 6. The petition cited “willful neglect to perform a duty” and “Inaccurate and Untimely Financial Reporting” as justifications for the removal.

The District Attorney for Hamilton County, who was appointed as an independent prosecutor at the request of the Shelby County D.A., filed the lawsuit.

Halbert’s term in office ends in 2026.
