In another fresh attempt to remove Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert from her position, a new petition was submitted.
The Shelby County Attorney Marlinee Iverson’s representatives submitted the most recent ouster petition on Friday, August 2, making it the second such petition that Halbert has now seen.
This comes after a judge dismissed the initial petition for Halbert’s dismissal on the grounds that District Attorney General Coty Wamp, the petition’s filing attorney, lacked the authority to make such a request.
This new petition states that the County Clerk “knowingly or willfully neglecting and failing to perform one or more duties, responsibilities, or obligations enjoined upon the Shelby County Clerk by the laws of the State of Tennessee.”
In addition, the complaint asks that Halbert’s employment be put on hold pending the outcome of a final hearing.
