After five years of operation, the Crosstown video rental shop and nightlife venue, The Black Lodge, is permanently closing.
The company announced its intention to close on Tuesday in a Facebook post, citing financial difficulties and a economy that is hard to keep up with.
“With heavy hearts, we must announce that Black Lodge is closing its doors after five unforgettable years. Your unwavering support, especially through the challenges of a global pandemic, has made this journey more magical than we ever could have imagined,” they said in their statement post. “Unfortunately, the weight of exorbitant rent and the crippling debt we incurred during COVID-19 have made it impossible to continue. We’ve fought hard, but the reality of a struggling economy means that nights out have become a luxury that many can no longer afford.”
It was the site of several events, such as 901 Wrestling, where hundreds would show up to shows, concerts, or themed nights held at the venue.
The video store will stay open even though the entertainment facility is closed. It has not yet been disclosed where it would be relocating.
