To start the Labor Day weekend, thousands of passengers made their way into Memphis International Airport on Thursday morning.
Approximately 48,000 travelers are anticipated to transit through the airport between Thursday, August 29, and Tuesday, September 3. That period is known as the Labor Day travel weekend season, with most of the travelers expected to flow through on Friday.
Memphis International stresses each holiday, and especially for this weekend, to arrive at least two hours before the scheduled flight.
That gives enough time for people to make their way through the long lines for check-in and then the other long lines for the security checkpoint.
Parking lots during peak travel seasons can also get full quickly, there will be extra parking provided in that case.
