Former Miami Heat basketball star Dwyane Wade, was recently part of the unveiling of his statue outside of the Kaseya Center.
The most notable moment from the unveiling was that it went viral for the worst reasons. Like the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo statue, Wade’s face didn’t match the bronze effigy.
Many on social media immediately made memes about it, and it became one of the biggest trending topics in sports this year.
The Kaseya Center, formally known as American Airlines Arena during his playing days, was the home of Wade for 14 total seasons.
He was drafted fifth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft, where he won Finals MVP in 2006, and capturing two more NBA titles in 2012 and 2013.
Wade left Miami for Chicago in 2016, played half a season in Cleveland the next year, and was subsequently sent back to Miami to finish out his career when he retired in 2019.
He was inducted in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023.
