NATIONAL | International Paper Announces More Layoffs And Plant Shutdown

More layoffs were announced by International Paper on Thursday.

The Memphis-based company announced that it would permanently close its Georgetown, South Carolina. The shutdown will be finished gradually and it will be fully closed by the end of the year.

International Paper declared on October 15 that it would eliminate approximately 650 jobs overall, including about 400 in Memphis, as part of the first round of layoffs.

The business announced less than a week later that it will stop operations at its packaging plants in Statesville, North Carolina; Rockford, Illinois; Kansas City, Mississippi; and Cleveland, Tennessee.

Severance benefits, outplacement services and access to mental health resources will be provided to all workers, the company revealed.
