LOCAL | Memphis Loses 901 FC To Santa Barbara, California

Reports and rumors broke on Tuesday night that 901 FC decided to give Santa Barbara, California, the rights to their USL Championship franchise since they were unable to come up with a “viable stadium solution.”

Their run lasted six seasons.

The team will not participate in 2025 as a result of the transfer, which takes effect immediately. However, they are anticipated to resume play in 2026, this time in Santa Barbara.

The $350 million the organization had hoped to receive from the state instead went to Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium.

901 FC played its unrealized farewell game on November 2 after losing to Orange County in the Western Conference quarterfinals.

Since 2019, the professional soccer team has played at Downtown Memphis’ AutoZone Park. The Memphis Redbirds of Minor League Baseball also call this place home.
