NATIONAL | Matt Gaetz Announces Withdrawal As Trump’s Nominee For Attorney General

Matt Gaetz resigned Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump’s candidate for attorney general.

The House Ethics Committee, which had been looking into Gaetz on charges of drug usage, sex trafficking, and corruption, voted against issuing a report on its findings the day before Gaetz made his announcement.

“While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” Gaetz said in his social media post. “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1.”
