TIGERS | Men’s Basketball Stuns Defending National Champion UConn In Maui, 99-97

The Memphis Tigers men’s basketball team defeated the two-time defending national champions, UConn Huskies, 99-97 in overtime to record their season’s biggest victory.

Tyrese Hunter scored 26 points, and PJ Haggerty scored 22. In the process, the Tigers ended the Huskies’ 17-game winning streak and improved their record to 5-0.

The Tigers battled back to force OT despite losing the lead in the fourth quarter. Due to clutch free throw shooting, Memphis was able to regain the lead after Haggerty fouled out.

Memphis will go to the championship game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. if they defeat Michigan State in their second-round matchup on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
