Dr. Marie Feagins, the superintendent of Memphis-Shelby County Schools, responded to the school board’s accusations of wrongdoing and their call for her to resign. She refused.
Many MSCS members have been quite public about their disapproval of Dr. Feagins’ leadership and have recently accused her of a number of violations.
To decide whether to terminate or permit her to remain on staff, MSCS board members convened a special call meeting on December 17.
It got out of hand when several citizens voiced their frustration with the board.
Dr. Feagins said in an email, “The commitment of five board members to prematurely end my contract without substantiated cause is extremely disappointing. While the Board holds the authority to terminate me: I will not resign.”
