Wanda Halbert, the Shelby County Clerk, is requesting staff raises from the Board of County Commissioners.
During the budget subcommittee on Wednesday, Halbert made the proposal.
She claims her employees deserve more and that the most recent raise is insufficient, so she is requesting that $1.1 million be taken out of the budget for the pay rise.
According to Halbert, this will lower the high staff turnover rate and enable her to hire managers and accountants as well.
