TENNESSEE | Obion County Under State Of Emergency After Levee Failure Causes Intense Flooding

Obion County has been placed under a state of emergency after a levee broke due to Saturday night’s intense rainfall.

Emergency Officials have described the situation as potentially fatal for neighborhoods.

Because of the increasing water and lack of electricity, Obion County Mayor Steve Carr ordered residents of Rives to evacuate.

Emergency personnel have been transporting boats door to door while conducting water rescues.

The Tipton County Fire Department reported that at one point, around 200 residents required rescue from the swelling Obion River.

The community has approximately 312 residents.

Hundreds of residents were taken to Ridgemont Elementary School for shelter, food, and other essentials.
