OBGYN Sanjeev Kumar has been indicted on 23 federal charges of sexual coercion, conducting unnecessary medical procedures, reusing single use medical devices and submitting thousands of claims to healthcare benefit programs like Medicare and Medicaid.
According to the indictment, 4 victims were coerced into performing sexual acts. These acts reported between September 19, 2019 to April 16, 2024. Kumar operated his business at Poplar Avenue Clinic Women’s Health Medspa.
Dr. Kumar is also described in the indictment to have hired staff with inexperience in gemological medicine and less likely to recognize the dangers of some procedures and perform others that were not necessary. The records show that 10 patients received unnecessary care and others were not aware of some of the procedures performed.
The indictment couts:
- 4 counts of enticement and inducement to travel to engage in illegal sex acts
- 5 counts of adulteration of single use devises
- 3 counts of misbranding reprocessed single use devices
- 1 count of adulteration of hysteroscopes cleared for reprocessing
- 10 counts of health care fraud
