Memphis Police confirmed that a man was taken into custody after he allegedly threatened to “butcher” members at a local Catholic church.
Two male victims, a music minister and a pastor, met officers at St. Louis Catholic Church on Friday.
The suspect, Zachary Liberto, allegedly vandalized the church’s baptismal pool after he and one of the male victims got into a heated argument. Afterwards, Liberto threatened to create “mass casualties” at the church in an email to one of the victims.
The victims both said that he was known to carry around a machete at times.
Liberto is being held on a $200,100 bond after being charged with commission of an act of terrorism.
