TEMA confirms 10 storm related deaths in West Tennessee. McNairy, Tipton, Obion, Fayette and Carroll Counties all reported storm related deaths as a result from Wednesday’s severe weather.
McNairy County reported 5 deaths after an EF3 tornado Wednesday night with sustained winds of 160mph. Selmer police department reported 3 deaths along New Bethel Road. According to the posted report, 14 people were taken to area hospitals.
Flooding – The Mid-South is getting a break from 4 days of non-stop storms and begins to evaluate the situation and damages caused by “generational” rain. Shelby County Sheriff’s Department worked overtime to answer rescue calls by motorists and people in homes.
Throughout the City of Memphis, street flooding was a big problem, especially Saturday as 12-14″ of rain water pushed the city’s storm drain system to it’s limits.
NSA Mid-South Commanding Officer order evacuation of all Capehart & Enterprising House residents as well as all residents at the RV Park. The levee was expected to top off over night Saturday. Millington officials did state that the levee had not broken, but the evacuation was precautionary.
McNairy County EMA reports 332 structures damaged from an EF3 tornado. 70 of those structures sustained major damage.
