LOCAL | Well-Known Memphis Activist Arrested & Charged With Disorderly Conduct

On Wednesday, a member of the Memphis Police Reform Task Force was taken into custody for engaging in disruptive behavior.

The other charge given to community activist Amber Sherman was obstruction of a highway or passageway.

Sherman is part of a new city police reform task team that was created in response to a Department of Justice report from December 2024 that accused the Memphis Police Department of using excessive force, discriminating against people, and violating the U.S. Constitution.

On Wednesday, Sherman shared a video of police officers outside a house on Facebook, saying the officers were threatening to arrest her for “speaking.”

On Thursday morning, Sherman was freed without posting bail.
