TIGERS | PJ Haggerty To Enter The Transfer Portal After One Season; Dain Dainja’s Decision Still Pending

Rough news hit for Memphis Tiger basketball fans as it was announced on Thursday afternoon that PJ Haggerty entered the transfer portal and will be leaving Coach Penny Hardaway.

Haggerty is coming off a 2024-2025 season where he won the Player of the Year award in the American Athletic Conference, averaging 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

He spent his freshman year with TCU, only playing in six games. He then committed to Tulsa and spent the 2023-2024 season as a Golden Hurricane.

It was reported that he has a “do not contact” tag, indicating he may already have his new team picked.

As for Dain Dainja, it was initially reported he would also be leaving, however, he has made it clear he hasn’t made a final decision yet.

Dainja averaged 14.6 points, and 7.4 rebounds as a Tiger.

Before his tenure with Memphis, he played for Baylor in his freshman year, and then transferred to play for Illinois for two years.

Both players were pivotal in leading Memphis to a AAC regular season championship, AAC conference championship, and securing a #5 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Haggerty’s final game in a Tiger uniform was in a loss to Colorado State in the first round of the national tournament.
