LOCAL | Charges Filed Against Two Former Detention Officers After Discovery Of Dead K9 Officer

Following the discovery of the body of a retired police K9 officer in Greene County, Arkansas, two now-former jail officers are facing charges of animal cruelty.

The dog, named Bane, was underweight and being put outside on a chain without access to food, water, or shade when the Greene County Sheriff’s Office received a tip.

Officers discovered Bane dead in an igloo doghouse the following day as they started their investigation.

He appeared to have been deceased for a few days based on his advanced condition of decomposition.

Bane worked with the Greene County Sheriff’s office as a K9 officer until retiring.

Both Payton Johnson and Ethan Huffstetler were charged with felony counts of killing or injuring a search and rescue dog or service animal, as well as aggravated cruelty to a dog.

They were also terminated from the Greene County Detention Center
