Memphis City Councilman Frank Colvett said on Memphis Morning News, he’s not sure if JB Smiley didn’t read the U of M Auxiliary charter before he presented a resolution demanding seats on the board. Simply put- there are no additional seats. This is part of the city council’s attempt to push back on Mayor Strickland’s plan to transfer Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium to the University of Memphis. Council members showed dissatisfaction that the mayor didn’t present it to them before going public. The council’s animus towards the handling of the plan, could put the $50 million gift by the Smith family, in jeopardy.
