CITY COUNCIL | Chief C.J. Davis Fails First Vote

Memphis City Council conducted a “test” vote to show where the members stand on keeping Police Chief Davis. She failed 7/6. Council members believe it’s time for a change and they showed that at the first city council meeting of 2024.

NO Votes: Chairman JB Smiley Jr., Ford Canale, Jana Swearengen-Washington, Chase Carlisle, Jerri Green, Philip Spinosa and Jeff Warren.

YES votes to keep CJ Davis: Rhonda Logan, Pearl Eva Walker, Edmund Ford Sr., Yolanda Cooper-Sutton, Michalyn Easter-Thomas and Janika White.

New Mayor, Paul Young wants to reappoint CJ Davis and said this about retaining her :

“All of our fates are riding on getting this right, If we’re not getting the results we need and deserve, we’ll go another way, But right now, I firmly believe we have the right person.”
