Dexter Scott King, the son of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., has died.
King, who passed away at 62, had been battling prostate cancer. He passed away in his sleep according to his wife, Leah Weber King, at their Malibu, California home.
When his father was killed in 1968 at the Loraine Motel in downtown Memphis, Dexter King was only 7 years old.
“The sudden shock is devastating,” Martin Luther King III, the oldest surviving child of MLK, said in a statement. “It is hard to have the right words at a moment like this. We ask for your prayers at this time for the entire King family.”
