A high-school basketball game came to a screeching halt after two women were arrested for fighting.
Ridgeway High School and Bolivar Central High School were battling for a spot in the Tennessee State Tournament when a physical altercation began at halftime between two 18-year-old women and an 18-year-old man who fled the scene.
Police came to the scene to break up the fight and had to deploy a chemical agent.
Neither players from each school were involved, however the game was suspended. The game has been rescheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Ridgeway, the TSSAA announced.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools put out a statement addressing the situation:
“Unfortunately, the game was stopped early due to an altercation on the sidelines. We’re hopeful that the game will be rescheduled, so our student-athletes will have the well-deserved opportunity to continue in the playoffs. We take this matter very seriously, and following district policies and state laws, there will be consequences and citations. For the sake of our dedicated student-athletes, let’s keep the action off the sidelines and on the court.”
