LOCAL | Man Seen Carrying An Axe At UofM Campus Arrested

A man wielding an axe at the University of Memphis was arrested Monday.

The suspect, Jamey Moody, 39, ran from officers at the East Memphis campus and was subsequently charged with carrying a weapon on school property and evading arrest due to the chase.

Moody told officers he was using the axe for protection, even though he was in no danger at the time.

According to officials, he will appear in court on Wednesday and for now has been released on his own recognizance.

He was stopped by police when he was seen walking around with the weapon and not dropping it when asked. This led to the brief chase and his arrest.
