John Calipari has officially been introduced as the next head coach of Arkansas men’s basketball.
He was introduced to Razorback fans in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Wednesday at Bud Walton Arena a day after his announcement on X addressing his departure from Kentucky.
As he put it in the social media post, the Kentucky program “needs to hear another voice.” His own voice led the Wildcats to the 2012 NCAA Championship in his 15-season leadership.
This all comes after the departure of Arkansas’ former head coach Eric Musselman, who accepted the head coaching job at the University of Southern California.
Calipari secured a five-year deal for $7 million per year through 2029. There are other financial stipulations should he make and further advance in the NCAA tournament.
The winningest active coach in men’s college basketball, Calipari holds a career record of 855-263, with plans to revitalize an Arkansas program that missed 2024’s March Madness tournament.
