EDUCATION | MSCS To Invest Additional $28.4 Million In Teachers Salaries In 2024-2025

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) just unanimously approved a salary increase across the board for teachers proposed by the District’s teacher memorandum of understanding (MOU).

A total of an additional $28.4 million will go to teacher salaries beginning in the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

“No matter what my title says, I will always be a proud teacher,” said Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins. “Teachers make magic happen daily in our classrooms, and it is my intention to continue to find ways to show our appreciation for their work. I am thankful for the Board’s support.”

This all comes after the success of the Collaborative Conferencing session in April which resulted in the development of the MOU. It had representatives from the United Education Association of Shelby County, District leaders, and the Memphis-Shelby County Education Association.

The pay raises will be allocated according to degrees earned:

  • Bachelors: $4,817.84
  • Master’s: 4,793.30
  • EDS: $6,361.92
  • Doctorate: $9,918.48

Teachers who have served the longest will also be given additional money with a bump of steps, where step 18 is regarded as the highest.

Those with 25 to 34 years of experience will be bumped to step 19 and an extra $3,000. Step 20 will be for those with 35 years and above of experience and an extra $4,000.
