As of Monday, Mayor Paul Young and Police Chief C.J. Davis announced the dismissal of Assistant Chief Shawn Jones from the city of Memphis.
Jones has had the role since 2021, and Mayor Young stated the decision to move away from his services was his decision.
Young also clarified that the decision was a part of an attempt to move the city in a different direction rather than being motivated by concerns about Jones’ residency.
However, the revelation that Jones, who arrived at the department from Atlanta along with Davis, was still residing and casting his vote in Georgia last week preceded the news conference by a few days.
Young and Davis still remain with their position that this move had nothing to do with Jones’ residency in Georgia.
