According to court filings, the driver of a stolen automobile, that resulted in an officer-involved shooting outside an elementary school on Monday, has been taken into custody.
Tadarius Nichols was accused of stealing over $10,000 worth of property and running from law enforcement.
The affidavit states that at approximately 2:00p.m., Memphis Police noticed a 2020 Dodge Charger near Frayser and Overton Crossing.
They identified the vehicle as having been the victim of a carjacking earlier that day. Nichols attempted to flee on foot after the police attempted to pull over the vehicle in front of Cornerstone Prep Academy. After a short chase, he was apprehended.
During the pursuit, the other carjacking suspect opened fire on the officers. They retaliated gunfire, killing the suspect in the process.
