LOCAL | Several High Schools Under Lockdown As Online Threats Surfaced

On Wednesday, a number of schools in the Memphis area were put on lockdown due to allegations of threats made online.

Southwind High School was put on lockdown around 7:20 a.m., according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, after someone made threats against the school.

Posts on social media included an image of a gun and a threat to shoot up the school. Parents have been informed of the situation with an email sent to them by MSCS.

“We are aware of a threat to several of our schools and, as a precautionary measure,” the email read. “Please do not go to your child’s school as law enforcement is actively investigating. We will provide updates as necessary.”

The schools that went under lockdown include Southwind High School, Ridgeway High School, Craigmont High School, Overton High School, and Germantown High School.

This all follows the horrific mass shooting in Winder, Georgia, on September, 4, when two students and two teachers were killed at Apalachee High School by a 14-year-old student.

The situation is still under investigation.
