LOCAL | Germantown Police Officer Charged With DUI After Crash

After allegedly crashing his car while intoxicated, a Germantown Police officer was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, Tuesday afternoon.

Lowell Young, an off-duty Germantown Police Officer, was found to be the driver of the vehicle. He has since been charged with DUI, open container, public intoxication, following too closely, refusal to submit to BAC, reckless driving, and possession of a weapon while intoxicated.

Young, who has worked for the Germantown Police Department for eighteen years, has been placed on unpaid leave.

GPD has not released a statement on their website or social media accounts regarding the incident at this time

Another GPD officer witnessed a driver exceeding the speed limit on Poplar Avenue and collide with another car during peak rush hours.

Since then, he has been freed from custody on a $5,000 bond.
