TIGERS | Tyreek Smith Announces Exit From Team, Enters Transfer Portal

Tyreek Smith, a forward for Memphis Tigers basketball, is stepping out from position with the team. Smith entered the transfer portal just hours before the 2024–25 season began.

The Tigers are scheduled to open their regular season at home on Monday night against the Missouri Tigers at 7 p.m.

Smith had previously played for Texas Tech as a freshman, Oklahoma State in his sophomore and junior season, and last year playing his senior year for SMU.

Smith had not yet appeared in a Tigers regular season game and didn’t play in the two exhibition games Memphis had against North Carolina and Alabama.

BREAKING: Hours before the new season is set to start, Memphis forward Tyreek Smith has entered the transfer portal without ever playing a game with the Tigers.

A statement from the program says in part “Tyreek informed the staff he would like to explore other opportunities.”
