A jury in DeSoto County, Mississippi, found a man guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a Southaven football player.
In 2022, a stray bullet murdered Christian Saulsberry, a Northpoint High School alumnus and former Canadian Football League player for the Edmonton Elks, during a house party in Walls, Mississippi.
Memphis resident Mark McDaniel was found guilty of Saulsberry’s murder.
According to the prosecution, McDaniel was inebriated when he first came at the party, and he was repeatedly requested to leave. He grabbed a firearm from his car and shot into the crowd after a physical altercation.
Saulsberry was an innocent bystander. With his back turned, he was hit by two stray shots and died.
McDaniel’s sentencing is scheduled for December 17.
