LOCAL | MLGW Implements 4% Increase To Utility Bills

Customers of Memphis, Light, Gas, and Water should anticipate a minor increase in their utility bills.

On Friday, a rate boost of 4% went into effect, raising a customer’s monthly payment by around $5.

The rate hike is not brand-new. The Memphis City Council approved a 12% rate hike for MLGW in 2023, which would be spread out over three years.

Of the three rate hikes, this is the second. The next hike is planned for 2026, with the first occurring in 2024.

MLGW released the following statement:

“Electric rates will increase by 4% starting January 3, 2025, as part of our comprehensive plan to replace outdated infrastructure and modernize the grid with the ultimate goal of improving reliability and reducing outages.
