The board has spoken.
Following an emotional, contentious, and lengthy public school board meeting, Dr. Marie Feagins was fired as the superintendent of Memphis-Shelby County Schools on Tuesday night.
After a brief discussion and presentation of a replacement resolution, the board decided to terminate Dr. Feagins’ contract by a vote of 6-3. Many in the crowd were supporters of Dr. Feagins, and were very unhappy with the decision.
Roderick Richmond was appointed interim superintendent by the board. The former superintendent appointed Richmond as the district’s Transformation Officer in June.
This is the second vote regarding her position. One month ago, the vote was delayed to give Feagins time to address the allegations brought against her.
Dr. Feagins immediate response to the firing was quote “I believe that many members of the board chose chaos over children, and it looks like they chose litigation over leadership, so I’ll see them in court.”
