Tops Bar-B-Q restaurant in East Memphis suffered a fire early Thursday morning as a result of mechanical problems.
Firefighters responded to a call about the blaze at Tops Bar-B-Q, on Rhodes Avenue, around 4 a.m. While fire crews battled the blaze, the intersection of Getwell Road and Rhodes Avenue was closed off.
The restaurant was unoccupied during the fire. Due to inclement winter weather, they closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Tops Bar-B-Q & Burgers CEO Randy Hough released the following statement, “We appreciate the work by the Memphis Fire Department to extinguish the fire, which we believe was caused by mechanical issues. At this time, the Rhodes location will be closed until repairs can be completed. We are working to determine the extent of the damage and a plan for repairs and reopening.”
